History
The Faculty of Education in Bijeljina was founded by the Decision of the National Assembly RS No. 02-891 / 93. of 21 July 1993, as stipulated in Art. 143 of the Law on the University ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska" No. 12/93). The faculty started to work on 29 November 1993, with the first generation of regular Bachelors of Teacher Education in 1993 –1994 academic year(The Commission has given its consent to the fulfillment of the conditions for starting faculty to work on the basis of which Decision No. UP-1-02-989-3 / 93 of 15 November 1993).
The Faculty of Education in Bijeljina was founded as an expression of the need to prepare teaching staff in the field of education and training, that is to say, to prepare teachers for teaching in junior grades of primary school. Studies at the Faculty Department of Class Teaching lasted 4 years.
By organizational structure, this faculty belonged to the University of Srpsko Sarajevo. Since this was a newly formed faculty, which had no space, furniture or any equipment, the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and Bijeljina Municipal Assembly decided that the faculty should be located in the part of the building (annex) of "Sveti Sava" Primary School. The process of equipping the faculty with furniture and equipment was slow, but with the help of the Ministry, Municipality of Bijeljina and donors, some basic furniture, equipment and part of the teaching aids were purchased. The faculty building of 940 square metres consisted of 5 listening rooms, one library with a reading room, one dean`s office, student service and accounting room, rooms for professors and assistants, one restaurant, and one room for Student Organisation. The gym and sports grounds of “Sveti Sava" Primary School, which are located in the same yard were used for practical classes of Physical Education. Along with solving the spatial and material conditions for starting to work, a curriculum was prepared, first teachers were admitted, the first council was formed and the Statute of the Faculty was adopted.
Education. The need for transformation was created from the intention of the Faculty of Education to educate teaching staff for working in pre-school institutions and primary education, while achieving the maximum rationality of studying at the faculty as well as to achieve a natural connection between preschool and primary education that did not exist in our education system before.
The Faculty became a member of the integrated university since September 2007. From 2007–2008 academic year students have been working according to the curriculum in accordance with the requirements prescribed by the Bologna Process: one-semester exams and tests have been introduced, the results are presented in ECTS credits, etc.
Since February 2010, the Faculty has been located in Semberskih ratara bb Street in Bijeljina, in a new, spacious and modern building (2 amphitheatres, 8 classrooms, computer room, rooms for professors, library, reading room, gym), with 30 PhD professors (Full Professors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors) 7 MAs and 14 Teaching Assistants.
